Freeze frame, the most absurd technique since the invention of the moving image: through an elaborate process of duplicating the same image over and over again, it creates the illusion of stillness. In this animated film, identical figures break and cut up the ice under their feet into cubes. They drag them into a dark space, trying to preserve a beauty they know will disappear. The movement of the cubes sliding by reanimates the frozen animals captured inside. Under the ice: an inverted world of ghostly white ice figures in the black water, reminiscent of the marvel of early scientific microscopic and underwater films. In their attempt to catch a fleeting moment, the figures get caught themselves.
