The film’s primary content relates to the seeing capacity of baby. Children, for Brakhage, see with “untutored” eyes, their perceptions are simpler, less educated, and more beautiful. We see the baby squinting, opening his eyes, and in superimposition the shots of minerals, shining with reflected light. These rocks belong to the mountain, they are of the mountain. The baby is beginning to learn how to see his environment.
