The mountain demands that man relish physical stamina. A red spot moves on screen, frenetically and then exhausted before recovering its breath in the end. The shepherd moves amidst his herd to the rhythm of bells, wind and clouds. Later, in the valley, the sheep stampede while he surreptitiously escapes into the paths’ shadows. It’s the animal instinct in man. On skis, we feel the ecstasy of a full-speed, free-wheeling descent.
