Divine Horsemen: The Living Gods of Haiti is a black and white documentary film about dance and possession in Haitian voodoo that was shot between 1947 and 1952. Maya worked on editing for a long time, not satisfied of a documentary vision. She died before completing it, but a long diary exists in which she expressed its doubts and uncertainties, explaining that her artistic integrity had to surrender to the irrefutable reality and impact of voodoo mythology. The film was edited by Teiji (her husband) and Cherel Ito after her death.
