A bicycle, its shadow projected onto the road and the sound of birds resonating between the leaves. “Heliografía” (heliography) means photography of the sun. Indeed, Claudio Caldini deploys an evanescent writing to capture glimmers of light in a moving landscape. [...] As in the famous photographic sequences of Eadweard Muybridge, the video HELIOGRAFÍA decomposes movement into a succession of fragile instances, making them oscillate. [...] Here, everything is lighter than air: forms dissolve and colors explode on the screen like in an Impressionist painting. For an instant, the image manages to grasp something imperceptible. Caldini takes advantage of the quality of the video transfer of Single-8 film to explore the expressive limits of both media.
