Jacques Verbeek and Karin Wiertz studied industrial design before starting to make films at the Free Academy/Psychopolis in The Hague. All their films were made using traditional animation techniques, becoming more and more sophisticated in their blending of geometrical elements and moving human figures derived from live-action. Although they never used a computer for their animations, their work prefigures many elements present in early computer animations: the austere three dimensional spaces constructed out of geometrical elements and the cool lighting.
Keep on Turning is one of their completely abstract films and it shows a dizzying illusion of depth through manipulations of a grid of cubes.
