Looking for the Mushrooms

1961-1996, USA, 16 mm, colour, music by Terry Riley, 15 min.

This version of the film is longer than its original version by five frame for every one in the original, and the original John Lennon/Beatles soundtrack has been substituted for that by Terry Riley.
Looking for magic mushrooms in San Francisco and in Mexico, Conner films movements, wild flowers with vivid colours and religious images, he edits in the camera in a highly lyrical way, making a film richly over-exposed, which was in principle conceived to be shown in a loop, that is, shown over and again an unlimited number of times.
With Looking For The Mushrooms, Conner depicts a prickly, tortuous and often shocking individual pathway, coming back to film and for one moment putting aside mass media sub-genres, TV adverts and b-movies which make up the main part of the material in his found footage archive which he dips into.
