Recordare

2009, Italy, video, colour, music K626 by W. A. Mozart, 5 min. 47 sec.

Recordare was made with the tomographic images taken from two cadavers donated to science within the Visible Human Project® by U.S. National Library of Medicine. Through continuous metamorphosis, the flesh becomes digital painting and the visual flow matches the musical beat of Mozart’s Requiem.
By exploring the organs as a modern haruspicina, this video deals with the intrinsic dualism of the body-soul and reflects on death in contemporary society. If the anatomical sections of these two cadavers are exhibited using the internet, then ‘animating’ these images is an attempt to find a tragic humanity in the bodies of a man and woman donated to scientific research.
