Even though they have now split up, Loophole Cinema were one of the most important UK expanded cinema performance groups of the 90s. Their artistic operations often consisted of upturning the vision of a space, modifying even its very use, through the use of many unusual games with screens, projection systems and lights. Whirlwind is a film-document which takes up the themes of some of their performances. Filmed using frame-by-frame and time lapse techniques and with various optical effects, the film in turn transforms the visual effects of these performances. Metamkine worked with Loophole Cinema on several projects, thus inheriting something of their cinematic practice.
