Originally a painter and sculptor, Jim Davis turned to filmmaking after he realized that images in motion would enable him "to communicate to his fellow men all that is new and progressive in contemporary existence and thought". He made many of his films by filming the reflections produced by mobiles: fragile structures he made of semi-transparent plastic sheets.
