Lichtspiel Schwarz-Weiss-Grau

Lichtspiel Schwarz-Weiss-Grau

1930, Germany, 16mm, b/w, silent, 6 min.

The only abstract film made by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, this film was based on the light patterns caused by his Light-Space Modulator. This was one of the first kinetic sculptures ever made, and consisting of several perforated volumes, a ball, a differently curved objects, carefully choreographed in a cycle of movements. The film mostly shows the shadows and reflections of the machine, and was originally planned as the sixth and last part of a much longer film evoking the new space-time.
