Artist and director, Thomas Bartels made his first films in the 1980s. These came from the heart of a collective laboratory, the Laboratorium in Braunschweig, set up with a few of his friends dedicated to experimentation. It was at that time that Bartels also began to create kinetic installations which have become ever more sophisticated over the years. Genuine sculptures, often of extremely large size, these installations are ingenious projection systems which decompose and decodify the notions and techniques of projection, often in a playful manner.
Schwimmer takes an original slant on the depiction of what is probably Bartels' most impressive installation, an enormous steel structure with two hanging parts which project an image on the water which passes beneath.
